One of the festivals Filipinos have adopted from Americans is the celebration of Mother’s Day. Thus, Filipinos celebrate Mother’s Day the same way Americans do. Mother’s day in Philippines is celebrated every second Sunday of the month of May.

There is now a big difference on how Filipinos celebrate Mother’s day nowadays. One week before the celebration of Mother’s Day, children and husbands are already preparing gifts, cards, and tokens of appreciation to give on this special day. And because Sunday is a no-work day, everybody can celebrate and participate.
Husbands play a great role during this day. They would prepare special surprises for their wives to show appreciation of all their great acts for the family. Some would even prepare an all-day celebration to pamper her. Others would book an out of town trip, a visit to the spa, or simply accompany her to shop her own gifts.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with the Whole Family
Mother’s day is celebrated in the Philippines with great enthusiasm and this special day is not only celebrated in honor of their own mothers. The whole family gathers together to acknowledge all the mothers in the family. They also give special treats to fathers and other male members who are acting as mothers at the same time.
Mothers – “Ilaw ng Tahanan”

A Filipino idiom that best describes the comfort and warmth mothers bring home with their cheerful demeanor is “ilaw ng tahanan” which means light of the home. A mother’s simple acts like her home-cooked meal prepared with love would lighten a home. Furthermore, mothers are known to be the bravest person in the family who can sacrifice their own interests for their family’s sake. They make sure to keep the home a happy and peaceful place for everyone to stay. However, these great sacrifices of a mother can be recognized by simply saying, “I love you” and “thank you” to them. Do this to every mother to celebrate Mother’s Day.
