In May 2019, I found myself booking a ticket to Manila.
This would be my first time to travel alone and I felt uncomfortable so I tried to convince my husband to go with me (along with our kids).
I made it sound like a family getaway (to convince him) but he said, “You can manage, you’ll be okay. Besides, that’s a business trip and we won’t be able to hang out since you’ll be in the summit most of the time.”
I was hesitant at first. I was really scared to travel alone but I didn’t want to let that opportunity pass.

Eventually, I decided to go, but oh, I didn’t go alone.
I travelled with my first daughter.
Luckily, we found Airbnb hosts who were so accommodating and friendly. As part of our bill, they came to pick us up at the Bus terminal which was another relief on my side.
Along our way to the host’s house, my learning journey began. The couple happily shared their stories of how they became debt-free.
Day 1: Freedom Summit Global was a Blast!
We reached the event place earlier than the call time but people were already flocking.
The music was lively and the setup was superb!
However, I was feeling overwhelmed due to the fact that I don’t know anyone there so my eyes started searching for Mommy MK.
While looking, we queued to register.
Fabio, one of the speakers (now the co-founder of Freedom Summit Global) greeted me with a smile, “Nice outfit – dress and boots! Perfect pair.”
I felt a bit relieved knowing that I am in a friendly space. I smiled back and said, “Thank you!”
My eyes continued to seek for Mommy MK until I saw her. Immediately after registering, I held my daughter’s arms and we went near her to introduce ourselves.
Again, I felt even more relieved because finally, I met someone I know. She invited us to go to the designated Mommy and Kids Play area. We went there for a while and I chatted with other mommy attendees then went back to the hall.
The speakers for Day 1 were all amazing!
I met new friends too!
My favorite speaker for the day was Mike Celis, a Life Coach and book author of the Best Selling #BestMeEver.
That time, I was still stuck with my book writing dream. After his speech, I followed him outside and shared my story.
In just 3 to 4 minutes of talking with him, I felt encouraged to push through with my dream. Today, I may not have published my book yet but at least, I took the first steps to realize it.
Day 2: I Met New Mentors in the Freedom Summit Global
Like the first day, Day 2 was brilliant! The program started with a short worship led by Ricky Shetty and company.
The topics that interested me during this day were Storytelling, Search Engine Optimization, Podcasting, Course Creation, and Marketing.
Leon Streete’s lecture was what attracted me the most. After his speech, I followed him outside and enrolled in his Online Course. I also got the chance to grab a copy of his More Leads: More Clients book.
I can’t thank this guy enough. Had I not met him, I won’t be a copywriter today.
During our coaching sessions, he pushed me to do direct response copywriting instead of my usual content writing services.
I pushed to learn more about copywriting since then and even if I was feeling overwhelmed with the topic, he kept reminding me about the possibilities I could achieve through it.
The resources he gave us throughout the lessons also helped me shift my mindset. I started treating my writing career as a real business and applied the lessons I learned in my mentoring business too!
Sadly, in Day 2, we had to leave the Freedom Summit Global venue early to catch our trip back home.
I wished I stayed to hear from other amazing speakers but in my heart and mind, I know already gained enough.
A year after the Freedom Summit
I can’t help but think of how this 2-day event has helped me grow to who I am today. This is the reason why I decided to get out of my comfort zone and try another new thing – to speak in the summit.
Last year, I was an attendee who is so hungry to learn new things. This year, I would also be sharing my knowledge to you.
